Planning Site Interfaces for a Factory Assembled Power Shelter

Define the equipment layout, cable entries, heat loads and transport constraints before a power shelter moves into factory assembly.

Power shelter equipment bays during factory assembly.

Start with the equipment schedule

A factory-assembled power shelter brings electrical equipment into a coordinated enclosure. Its value depends on how well the package matches the site. A shelter that fits the transport route but leaves cable entries, heat loads or maintenance space unresolved can transfer integration work back to the installation team. The procurement review should therefore begin with interfaces, not only enclosure dimensions.

Build the shelter layout around an approved single-line diagram and equipment schedule. Identify switchgear, protection panels, control equipment and auxiliary distribution, together with anything delivered separately. Record which supplier is responsible for each connection. This makes it easier to distinguish the enclosure scope from equipment supply, installation and commissioning responsibilities.

Coordinate access and cable routes

Cable-entry positions need to match both the electrical layout and the civil design. Confirm whether cables enter from below, the side or overhead, and reserve the required termination and bending space. Check trenches, duct banks and foundation openings against the shelter drawings before the base frame is finalized. Late changes can affect internal routing, supports and enclosure details.

Maintenance access also needs a practical review. Identify the intended working area for each panel, how removable equipment will leave the enclosure and whether doors can open after installation. A clear aisle on a drawing is not enough if site structures, adjacent modules or cable supports block it. Foundation levels and any site assembly between shipping sections should be included in the interface register.

Use equipment heat loads to plan ventilation

Ventilation or HVAC should be selected around the actual equipment heat losses and site conditions. State the ambient temperature range, altitude, dust, humidity and any corrosive exposure. Consider whether auxiliaries remain energized when the main equipment is out of service. The specified arrangement should explain how temperature and condensation are controlled under the relevant operating conditions.

The engineering review should also allocate responsibility for grounding, lighting, fire-related interfaces and auxiliary power. These systems have connections beyond the shelter boundary. A project may require signals to a site control system or specific shutdown functions, so describe them in the approved point list and test plan rather than assuming that every shelter includes the same package.

Review shipping and acceptance before production

Transport planning should start while the enclosure can still be divided into suitable modules. Review route restrictions, shipping dimensions, module weights, lifting points and the lifting equipment available at the site. Identify components that travel separately and the work required to reconnect them. The delivery documentation should support the sequence of unloading, positioning and installation.

Factory acceptance testing should follow the agreed specification and inspection plan. Dimensions, equipment mounting, wiring and protective-earth connections are different checks from protection, communication or auxiliary-system functions. Agree witness points and acceptance records before testing. Product-level verification documents remain relevant to the installed equipment; a component certificate does not establish the compliance of every item in the complete shelter.

Prepare a clear quotation request

For a useful quotation, send the single-line diagram, equipment schedule, site conditions, cable and foundation interfaces, heat loads and transport constraints together. Mark open items so the supplier can identify assumptions. For examples of the equipment arrangements and project inputs, review ZHONGSHAO's factory-assembled power shelters. The next step is to agree an interface register and technical document schedule before production.
